L' undici agosto, Alex ha registrato un'intervista per la stazione radiofonica Radio Mix 103.7 (a Richmond). Qui seguirà la trascrizione dell'intervista, fatta da Debbie del sito AlexMaxBand.com.

Jack and Jen in the morning…Alex Band of The Calling on the phone. What is going on with you these days man?

Alex – I’ve kind of had it with the record label. I spent like 2 years making my solo record with Universal and it was just a constant battle so I kind of looked around at what’s going on with the business and a few friends of mine were doing it successfully and I decided I wanted out so I got my lawyers and got out of my deal and bought my album that I made and so I’m actually putting together my own label and investments and doing an international distribution deal with a label.

Jack – So you’re an Indie now? I know Art from Everclear kind of went through that and they’re doing their own deal now.

Alex – Yeah, I mean it made sense, I didn’t want to go to another label or I might as well have stayed with mine. I mean I’ve been signed …I was signed with Clive Davis and then I went to Universal so I’ve been signed since I was like 15 so I don’t know what this is like and it’s exciting cause I’ve literally fought with people my whole life to get my music out and to do what I want so it seemed like a good idea.

Jen – Has it been better then since?

Alex – I don’t know yet…I’m in the process now of….well yeah, I’ll tell you it has been because immediately I was able to do the things I haven’t been able to do for years….one, I immediately started playing shows. I just did a huge tour in Brazil playing for like 10,000 people a night and I immediately made an EP of new music, that isn’t on the album, B sides and stuff. I made CDs, we took 5,000 of them to Brazil and sold them , selling them online, just something in the interim, while we’re waiting for the record to come out , which won’t come out until the beginning of next year.

Jack - Do you ever think of people like Prince, remember when he put Slave on his face….is that what you’re talking about here when dealing with the label…

Alex – Yeah, you gotta think that was a long time ago, that was quite a while ago and that was when people were still selling records and labels were still somewhat lucrative but at this point because it’s so, so bleak in the business, these labels are not making money and the only way they can make money and the only person they can turn to and to rip off are the artists. So..you know take what we all know about the evil label and slave and all that and multiply it by a hundred because now the labels are forcing artists to sign 360 deals where they take part of their touring and their royalties and their writing and their merchandising so you know their trying to take more from the artists whereas the artist is barely getting anything anyway …so I don’t know , it’s all just kind of nasty.

Jen – Now you’re not considering changing your name to a symbol like Prince did or anything, right?

Alex – Defintely not…Dude my name is confusing enough as Alex Band…everyone is like are you the Alex Band. No that’s my name. I’ll stick with that , I don’t want to be any more confusing.

Jack – Now the last time you were in Richmond you played some stuff on the show…are these the tracks that are going to be on the album?

Alex – Yeah, probably since then I’ve done more but yeah, the albums been done for awhile now..so probably similar songs. I’ll be playing new songs , we actually released one of the songs in Brazil and it went to Number one….well I mean just while we were on tour there … but anyway yeah, I’ll be playing new songs, I’ll be playing Calling hits and this is going to be a really fun show, my buddies Eve6 are going to be playing it again, they did it with me last year here in LA and Brianna Taylor from MTV’s Real World who I think is going to have a hit song coming up…The song she wrote is actually doing pretty well and she is going to be there.

Jen – What’s the name of your album coming out?

Alex – We’ve All Been There

Jen – And that’s the title song?

Alex – No…I couldn’t really tell you what the first single’s going to be. No one knows…maybe I’ll give you guys a few of the songs and you can decide.

Jen & Jack – We can decide and we can say hey….that’s not wise….Actually instead of the record labels you could sign with the Jack and Jen show … you know…

Alex – Do you guys want to put up the money…

Jen – Uh..no Jack…We’re out….

Jack - Hey what about Donate for Life? How are you involved in that, what’s your tie in?

Alex – Denise over there has been a good, good friend for years now…my wife actually is the one who discovered Donate Life on line years and years ago because she’s been through a whole issue with her liver and she was going to need a transplant and we were going to get on the donor list and kind of learned a lot about this world and how it’s kind of unfortunate that there’s like 100,000 people a year in America almost needing organs to live, to survive and there’s only like half of those getting received by people because there’s only like half of them being given out by people which is silly because there are plenty of people who don’t need their organs anymore once they’ve passed away ummm, so you know, we thought this is a great cause and obviously it’s close to us because my wife was dealing with it and we jumped right in and you know we talked to Denise and we said anything we can do to help ….. I think at this point with the help of my fans and especially my super fan and friend, Debbie Hagerman, we’ve raised almost $100,000 and yeah we’re just super advocates of Donate Life and now I’m doing this Alex Band Rocks every year …

Jen – Your wife is doing well though, right , for the listeners?

Alex – She is…She’s still got some issues but she had a massive surgery two years ago that saved her life , she’s definitely better than she was then.

Jack – Well you’ve a lot to be grateful for …things are rolling for you. Toad’s place is going to be a great venue

Alex – Yes, Toad’s Place, August 21st , it is a great venue and it’s semi new and I’ve played there before. It’s awesome but yeah August 21st , it’s a benefit concert for Donate Life, Alex Band’s Donate Life..check out Eve 6, I’m sure people remember them and all their songs, they’re actually going to put a record out soon and Brianna Taylor from MTV’s Real World and yeah…tickets are on sale now. You can call Toad’s or Denise at Donate Life.

Jen – Lots of luck to you Alex Band, can’t wait to see it. Take care.

Alex – Okay, thank you guys. Bye.
